FRANK BAK

After completing his studies at the Dutch Film Academy in 1984, Frank Bak, for the first 10 years,  primarily produced television programmes and series for public broadcasting companies including KRO, VARA, TROS, VPRO, NPS, IKON and AVRO. In 1994, he realised his first major feature SUITE 16, an international co-production with Belgium and France directed by Dominique Deruddere and with Pete Postlethwaite, Geraldine Pailhas and Antonie Kamerling in leading roles. The film was sold worldwide, including North America.

His credits as producer include. “MISSING LINK” (1999. A co-production with TROS TV, Belgium and Germany. Family feature. Selected for the Berlin International Film Festival and winner of a Golden Calf for best screenplay). “LA PALOMA” (a full-length documentary about a famous dance salon in Barcelona. Co-production with AVRO TV).”THE ELECTRONIC CURTAIN” (documentary about electronic security along the border between East and West).”I LOVE YOU TOO” (feature film by Ruud van Hemert based on the book by Ronald Giphart. Golden Film and Grolsch Audience Award. Co-produced with BNN TV). The short films “GREAT” (winner of the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival 2004), “TARRY” (Winner of the Golden Calf 2003 and included in the official selection of Berlin), “BAD LUCK”, “SALT BATTLE”. The tele-film “SAINT AMOUR” (a co-production with IKON TV). “THE SEA THAT THINKS” (a cinematographic essay about consciousness, winner of the prestigious Joris Ivens Award 2000 from the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam. Co-production with NPS TV). “SHOUF SHOUF HABIBI!” (feature about Moroccan kids who try to find their way in Dutch society Golden Film and second place in the Top Ten of Dutch-language films in 2004. Selected for Berlin. Co-production with VARA TV). “DE DOMINEE” (crime film based on the life of Mafia boss Klaas Bruinsma. Golden Film and winner of the Golden Calf for production design 2004. 8^th place in the Top Ten in 2004. Co-production with VARA TV, the United Kingdom and Luxembourg).
